Mr. Eric Lothspeich is the founder of EMLstudio, an active freelance studio that specializes in concept art, user experience/interface design, and production art for mobile apps and video game design. He also creates and sells original oil paintings and photography and appears in the East and West Studio Tours while teaching throughout Austin and surrounding areas. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from the University of Georgia at Athens where he focused on layout, typography, web-design and illustration. During this time, he worked closely with Alex Murawski and Mark Braught (the concept artist for the first Harry Potter movie) to acquire the classical styles of illustration taught by Andrew Loomis and George Bridgman while learning new digital techniques in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign in the Production Department of the school newspaper. His teaching career began at this time with Comic Book classes for middle-schoolers at the UGA summer camps.
While in Atlanta, Eric took a job as Game Artist at Cadillac Jack, a digital slot-machine manufacturing company. There, he developed his skills in Adobe Flash and After Effects to create immersive animations with his artwork while perfecting his digital illustration. He also began taking oil painting classes and learning the styles of Sargent, Bouguereau, Zorn, and Sorolla. As he began leading larger projects at work, he was promoted to Art Lead and relocated to Austin to begin a separate branch in Texas where he focused more on management and production over his own remote team.
EMLstudio was created in 2014 to allow Eric to take on his own projects, but also to expand into more of a teaching role. He works privately and through local programs, such as Cordovan Art School where he teaches various styles of classical theory mixed with illustration, design, and concept art.
