Mindy Hensen, artist & educator

Mindy Hensen has a degree in Secondary Education from The University of Texas. After teaching middle school math for 30 years, Mindy was ready to try something new. Always interested in drawing and coloring, Mindy began meeting with friends for art time each week. She enjoys Zentangle, adult coloring books, and is currently experimenting with dot mandala painting and watercolor. Mindy fulfilled a dream in 2006 and enrolled in a stained-glass class. After a few more classes, she began experimenting with mosaics. She has studied under some amazing mosaic artists, including Dianne Sonnenberg of Austin and Martin Cheek of England.

Mindy has had several entries in the Austin Art Boards (billboard art) competition, and the Round Rock Arts “Imagine” art show. In 2012, she won a third place award in the “Imagine” art show for her piece, Starry Mandala. She participated, along with the Austin Mosaic Guild, in the creation of the mosaic wall on the playground at Dell’s Children’s Hospital in Austin.

Mindy’s Facebook page, Mindy’s Mosaics https://www.facebook.com/pg/MindysMosaics/photos/?ref=page_internal features pictures of some of her work. Since 2017, Mindy has been teaching mosaics in Lago Vista. She also enjoys teaching children and adults about The Kindness Rocks Project, and leads free rock-painting classes several times a year. Mindy and her husband Charlie have been married since 1982 and have lived in Lago Vista since 1985. They have one daughter, Heather, who is married and lives in the Dallas area with her husband.
