Pottery Parlor - Create

3. Create

Time to relax and enjoy your family or friends and let your creativity take over! If you’d like, a staff member can show you some artistic tips and techniques to help bring your idea to life!

Glazing

4. Glazing

After you leave the studio, we take your piece into the back room and let it dry completely. Next, we carefully dip it in a glaze made of liquid glass. The glaze turns molten at a very high temperature, creating a shiny, glassy, food-safe finish.

Firing

5. Firing

We will wait while your piece drys again, and then we’ll load it into one of our high-grade ceramic kilns to be fired for up to 8 hours! Kiln temperatures reach an excess of 1800 degrees!

Pottery Cooling

6. Cooling & Polishing

The cooling time required is double the firing time! It could take up to 16 hours! Our staff then hand polishes each piece to remove any sharp bits of Glaze that can form during firing. Your beautiful, ceramic creation is ready for pick-up!

Do I need to set up an appointment?
No. You can walk-in and paint any time our pottery parlor is open

How long does it take to paint a ceramics piece?
Approximately 1-2 hours depending on the detail and size of your piece.

How long until I can pick-up my finished piece?
Approximately 7 days. Once you finish painting your piece, it needs time to dry before we put it in our kiln to be fired.

Is my piece food safe? Microwave safe? Bake safe?
The paints and glazes we use are all approved as lead-free and food-safe. This means that no toxins leech into the foods and liquids that come in contact with the surfaces. In general, earthenware is microwave safe, but it is not oven-safe. Large and quick shifts in temperature can cause ceramics to crack and it is not recommended to put your ceramics piece in the oven.

How much does it cost?
Each ceramic piece has its own price tag – ranging from $9 to over $75. In addition, there is a $6 painter’s fee that covers unlimited amount of paint, brushes, glazing and kiln firing your custom piece.

Can you help me if I don’t know what to paint?
Yes! Just ask a staff member for help chosing a piece or choosing a design! You’ll find lots of inspiration around you when you enter the studio.

Can I bring food into the studio?
Yes, of course! Many people bring in food to snack while they paint. Because the paints and materials are all food-safe, there are no risks with having food in the area.
