Patchwork Phoenix
Interview with Rhea Rose by Grace Smith:
Keep your eyes out around town for the latest colorful addition, Patchwork Phoenix by Rhea Rose, is set to decorate the utility box near Quenen’s at 7th Street.
Created as a combination of two artistic series by Rose, Patchwork Phoenix aims to inspire hope and optimism for those who may be struggling, “It’s a message that I want to give to people and inspiration, something to look at that reminds you that it’s not over. It’s not the end. Whatever you’re going through is not the end. You can always rise above it. Everything is intentional. Your life is intentional, everything you experience, it’s a patchwork. If you step back and look at it, it’s all meant to be, I would say. Everything happens for a reason, and I would like to be an encouragement to anyone who sees [Patchwork Phoenix].”
Working as an instructor at the Cordovan Art School within the Georgetown Art Center, Rose plays a vital role in the Georgetown arts community. This work provides an exciting opportunity for her art to be viewed by the community she serves, “I’m here all the time. I’m here teaching the kids. and I am happy to finally have representation in the community where I’m at every week and hopefully making a difference in kids’ lives.”
Rose’s work was selected from over 40 submissions as part of the 2026 Utility Box Art open call. Her work and two other pieces will be on view in the Downtown Cultural District until 2029.
